Plugging into Permaculture
25 May 09
Like to know more about
permaculture? Then note May 28 for the next Slow Food
breakfast meeting at Blue Ginger Restaurant.
The guest speaker Leonie Shanahan, who is at the forefront of the
edible school garden programs on the Coast, will tell you
everything you could ever want to know about permaculture.
Leonie has set up Kitchen gardens in 13 schools and taught
students about permaculture design and assisted the students in
designing their own edible school garden.
Parents, grandparents and the school community then come together
to set up the children's permaculture vegetable garden with worm
farms, compost systems, lots of vegie gardens, herbs, and some
fruit trees.
Over the 12 months, Leonie teaches all aspects of organic
gardening and waste management.
Then during a harvest celebration, Slow Food provides chefs to
cook the produce with the students. The students make up
the tables and decorate them with flowers and everyone eats
together. the projects are a hugely rewarding experience
for all involved.
So at the breakfast hear Leonie speak about the four school
projects Slow Food has sponsored, and enjoy some of the produce
from the Peregian Beach Community College Slow Food Kitchen
Garden.
Some of the students will also be there to answer your
questions.
