Our Lady of the Rosary students enjoy fruits of their labour
during Harvest Festival.
A feast of Madagascar bean patties, vegetable pizzas and
minestrone soup was served up at Our Lady of the Rosary last
month to celebrate Harvest Festival.
Students literally enjoy the fruits if their labour as the
harvest of their school garden fed the entire school cohort. Year
2 teacher Trish Faye said the garden had been planted almost 12
months ago.
'What started as something for a few classes to engage in has now
interested the whole school.' She said.
'We now have plans to extend it to stage two keep things moving
along.'
Edible School Garden's Leonie Shanahan, who guided the students
through the journey from concept to harvest, said Harvest
Festival had been one of the biggest she had attended.
'It's Wonderful to see kids are so excited. Thats what it's all
about,' She said. The festival included singing and dancing, the
much-anticipated feast, which parents and students cooked
together, and a mini-Leonie and mini-Coast (of SBS Coast's Garden
Odyssey) competition, where students dressed up as the
look-alikes of their gardening heroes.
