EDIBLE-GARDEN pioneer Leonie Shanahan, of Castaways Beach, will
swap her work boots and wide-brimmed hat for work something
smarter for the launch of her first book, Eat Your Garden, on
September 16.
Leonie has introduced her edible school garden program into 16
schools on the Sunshine Coast, helping children to understand the
importance of eating real, nutritional food straight from the
home garden.
"I realised early on what if children grow it, they will eat it,"
She said.
There is an urgent need to spread gardening knowledge to improve
children's health, Leonie said.
Eat Your Garden answers the types of questions that Leonie is
often asked by children, parents, teachers and even gardening
professionals.
She said the book would suit beginner gardeners or parents whose
children wanted to learn about gardening and growing organic food
at home.
The launch, at Blue Angel Restaurant on Gympie Tce, Noosaville,
from noon, will include a two-course meal showcasing ways to use
fresh produce from the garden, and a glass of sparkling
wine.
Tickets cost $50 and bookings essential - phone the restaurant on
5473 0800.
The book is available through Edible School Gardens. For more
information, see www.Edible
